The Canberra Archaeological Society (CAS) and the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology (ASHA) present Archaeology Connections.
Presented by the Canberra Archaeological Society and the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology, this public symposium is part of the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival.
The Symposium theme this year will be 'Archaeology Connections'. Recognising connections, associations and relationships is a fundamental skill required of archaeologists, whether between physical elements of material culture (close or distant), or behavioural evidence, within or across sites. Importantly, also, making connections with communities – local and/or traditional - is a requirement of modern, ethical archaeology. This broad theme also encompasses the recognition of connections with audiences through the art of archaeology and connections/associations between artefacts over time and space.
The event will feature:
Welcome to Country - Paul House;
Exploring Past, Present and Future Connections in Archaeology Through Community Collaboration - Dr Ben Shaw (ANU);
Stories From Your Backyard: Public Archaeology, Museums and Connecting Audiences - Dr Anna Wong (ACT Galleries, Museums and Heritage) and Dr Steve Brown (UC);
Imagining Archaeology: The Role of Contemporary Creative Practice in Re-imagining Archaeology - Dr Ursula Frederick (UC);
Water Connections: Investigating the Systems for Delivering and Removing Water in a Society - Gary Vines (Biosis, LTU);
Q&A panel with the speakers.
